International trade as an engine for development

A slowdown in world good trade growth has changed trade dynamics, but this slowdown has been somewhat compensated for by high growth and increased developing country share of trade in services. Meanwhile, multilateral trade negotiations have made only slow progress and an increasing number of citizens in developed economies are voicing negative feelings about the impact of globalisation of trade. The two key challenges towards realising the potential of trade are to make trade growth inclusive and to establish coherence or trade agreements with sustainable development.
