Welcome to the United Nations
The Financing for Development outcomes emphasise the need for policy coherence and the important role of the United Nations’ regional commissions.
In Asia, improving cooperation, coordination and policy coherence in financing for development issues is a priority of ESCAP's recent efforts to support our member States. In March 2016, ESCAP organized the First High-level Follow-up Dialogue on Financing for Development in Asia and the Pacific in the Republic of Korea, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea. More than 200 delegates, including close to 30 ministerial-level VIPs, participated in this event and discussed the financing strategy for Asia and the Pacific for 2030. Key focus areas of the dialogue included regional tax cooperation, capital markets, securities commissions and regulations in Asia and the Pacific, financing for infrastructure development, financial inclusion, climate finance, and South-South cooperation and triangular development cooperation with a focus on the countries with special needs. The Chair’s Summary of the Dialogue was shared at the inaugural ECOSOC Forum on Financing for Development in New York in April 2016.
The next High-level Dialogue on Financing for Development in Asia and the Pacific is planned for April 2017. Following up on the identification of key priorities at the 2016 consultation, the 2017 meeting will discuss specific policy areas in terms of taking finance for development related work forward in the region. For this purpose, it will focus on a smaller set of issues, in particular, domestic resource mobilization and taxation issues, infrastructure financing, financial inclusion and climate finance. The conference will have the participation of Ministers, senior policy makers, scholars, private sector practitioners, development partners and stakeholders from ESCAP Member States.
